Young Adult Corporate / Job Training Program Year Up New York Still Accepting Applications
YEAR UP NEW YORK is a unique, year-long training and corporate internship program that prepares urban young adults for professional careers and higher education. Our mission is to close the Opportunity Divide by providing urban talent with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential. Our participants have an opportunity to:

* Earn a stipend of up to $260 per week and A+ certification
* Learn in-demand technical, financial, and professional skills for 5 months
* Succeed in 6 month corporate internships with Fortune 500 companies, such as American Express, Citi, Google, Bloomberg, JP Morgan Chase and others
* Belong to a community with on-going career support and guidance

YEAR UP STUDENTS are ages 18-24, have a high school diploma or a GED, and are hungry for an opportunity to learn and to succeed. Our success is our graduates: enabling them to participate in the economic mainstream and become change agents in their lives, families, and communities. We have received excellent results to date:

* Year Up NY has served 497 young adults since its first class in 2006
* Over 77% of our graduates are working and/or in college within four months
* Our alum earn $35,000 a year on average, a tenfold increase in their earnings prior to Year Up

Admissions Overview
Our next class begins March 6th, 2012 and applicants will be considered on a rolling basis from now until February 9th, 2012 Applying to Year Up involves a number of stages. While it is nothing to be overwhelmed by the whole process ideally takes place over the course of 2-4 weeks. With this in mind, we recommend all prospective students beginning the process well before the final deadline.

Fill out an Interest Form
  • On our website - go to www.yearup.org , click "Apply" and then "Interest Form"

  • At our office - visit us at 55 Exchange Place, suite 403.
Mandatory Open Houses
  • Held every Tuesday from 3:30-4:30 and 4:30-5:30 at our MHT site
  • Held every Thursday from 4:00-5:00 ( only in January/February and July/August of 2012)
  • Take the 2/3 or 4/5 to Wall St. or the J/Z to Broad St; we are located between Broad and William St
Complete an Application
  • Download our application from our website, pick one up from our office, or call admissions and we can send one to you
  • Fill out the application form and gather the requested admissions materials, including:
    • Documentation of identification and legal right to work
    • Personal statement/essay question
    • One official transcript in a sealed envelope
    • Two references
    • Recommendation Form

Learning Assessment
  • Qualified applicants will be invited to take a 2 hour Learning Assessment to evaluate their ability to learn in a classroom setting
  • All late applicants will be rescheduled
  • Held every Wednesday from 8:30-11:30 AM at the MHT Site
  • Held every Monday from 3:30-6:00 PM at the BK site

Interview
  • Applicants arrive to the interview 15 minutes before their interview time and professionally dressed (no jeans, sneakers, or t-shirts)
  • All applicants have the opportunity to review our Welcome Packet
  • All late applicants will be rescheduled
Follow-Through
  • Follow-through isn't an official "step" of the process, but it is a crucial component of the criteria we use to consider an applicant for admittance. Follow-through means arriving to scheduled appointments on time, rescheduling 24 hours in advance, coming in for additional interviews, bringing in remaining materials in a timely manner, dressing professionally on every visit to our office, etc
  • Student's are allowed to re-apply once and can only reschedule once

HOW DO I APPLY?

Priority Deadline: December 15th 2011
Final Deadline: February 9th 2012
Classes Start: March 6th 2012

Applicants are admitted on a rolling basis. Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered based on availability and may not be reviewed for admission for the term to which you intended to apply. Due to the high volume of applications we receive all applicants are strongly encouraged to apply well before these deadlines.

FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW TO APPLY:

  2. Mandatory: Attend an Open House (see below)
  3. Submit an Application which can be printed out from our website or obtained by visiting or calling our office.
  4. After you attend an open house we will schedule you for next steps.

OPEN HOUSES are held every Tuesday from 3:30-4:30 and 4:30 -5:30 PM at our office. They are a great way to visit Year Up New York, meet our current students and staff, and learn about the admissions process.
