BA Brooklyn Grub Crawl!
The Bon Appétit Grub Crawl will take you on a hands-on, interactive food tour at the ground zero of the artisanal-food universe.
In true Brooklyn form, you'll experience food and drink up close, hang with the chefs and peek in the kitchen in the back--as opposed to just being served in the front. And if that's not enough, on Saturday it culminates in can't-miss music performances. For more information and to buy tickets now, go to http://bagrubcrawl.com/brooklyn.html.
Sunday, 6/3

Take the 2013 Pledge!

We want a new direction for public schools. After a decade of Mayor Bloomberg running the schools on a corporate reform agenda, only half of White students, half of Asian students, and only 13% of Black and Latino students graduate ready for college. Yet a new campaign supported by hedge fund managers and corporate CEOs has committed to raise $50 million to continue those same reforms. We refuse to allow Mayor Bloomberg's failed policies a fourth term.
We pledge to only support candidates for mayor who will:child_3_aa.jpg
  • Embrace a new direction for public education that emphasizes collaboration over competition, and speak out against the failures of Mayor Bloomberg’s school reforms;
  • Prioritize real and meaningful learning that develops engaged youth who are prepared for college and careers, not just to take standardized tests;
  • Respect parents, students, educators, and communities and work with them to improve our schools instead of working against them;
  • Keep our public schools public by rejecting the support of the $50 million coalition and the privatization of our schools.

Lots of Chances for Free Doughnuts, Starting Tomorrow
So many doughnuts.
So many doughnuts.
Granted, they aren't fancy ones, but there are still lots of chances for free doughnuts coming up. It all starts tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Penn Station with a ribbon cutting to commemorate three brand-new Hudson News/Dunkin' Donuts mashups on the building's Amtrak side; mascots Mr. Sprinkles, Hudsy the News Hound, and, um, Joe the Cup will dispense freebies from their variously shaped and sized foamy hands. Do free doughnuts trump creepy mascots? You'll have to decide that yourself.
Then on Friday starting at 7 a.m. in conjunction with the 75th annual National Donut Day (which started in 1938 as a war relief effort), the Salvation Army will hand out free Entemann's doughnuts and coffee southwest corner of the Madison Square Park at 23rd and Broadway.
Also on Friday, the only corporate-sanctioned Krispy Kreme in the city, located conveniently in Penn Station, is also participating in the promo day by offering customers a free doughnut of choice.
And finally on Friday, purchase any beverage at Dunkin' Donuts and get a free doughnut. Granted, that could possibly mean two free Dunkin' Donuts in a week, which depending on your feelings is either a very good thing, or a very sad thing. Either way: lots of free doughnuts!
