Events for charities and Father's Day Events

Some Special Chicken Salad
Through July 12, Num Pang sandwich shops, at 21 East 12th Street and 140 East 41st Street, will serve a special sandwich devised by Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Dan Kluger: chicken salad with Thai basil and chili mayonnaise on a semolina baguette. It is $9.25, with $6 being donated to the Edible Schoolyard, which helps improve children’s eating habits, and the Double H Ranch, a camp in the Adirondacks for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Looking Out for Dad
For a father who may need to fine-tune his barbecue skills, consider a gift of a lesson by Joe Mizrahi of Smokin’ Joe’s True-Blue Texas Barbecue on Staten Island. He will bring gear, a pig, sauces and rubs and conduct a class for 8 to 10 people, who can enjoy the results, all in someone’s home, for $100 a person. To book a class: smokinjoesbbq.com.
On Sunday, Bouchon Bakery Cafe, on the third level in the Time Warner Center, will serve a three-course Father’s Day menu family style, featuring the fried chicken that is served at Ad Hoc, a sister restaurant in Yountville, Calif., $38 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations are not accepted. Information: (212) 823-9366.
Beer Table, 427 Seventh Avenue (14th Street), Park Slope, Brooklyn, will hold a Father’s Day catfish fry, with beer, in front of the restaurant from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, $12 for adults, $8 for children or those who prefer a smaller portion with no habanero sauce.
There will be a pie contest at a Jazz Age lawn party on Governors Island on Saturday. Bakers wishing to submit pies must register by midnight the night before atgovislandpie@gmail.com, and bring pies to the island by 3 p.m.; winners will be announced at 4:15. Pies will be available for tasting on a first-come-first-served basis. Admission to the party, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, is $15 at the door. Information: dreamlandorchestra.com/calendar.php.
A dinner with a cheese tasting and wines will take place Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Fairway Market Café and Steakhouse, 2127 Broadway (74th Street). Steven Jenkins of Fairway and the sommelier Joshua Wesson will speak. Reservations are $45, including tax and tip: (212) 994-9555.
A discussion about how sake is made, with a tasting of more than 30 sakes, will be on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Japan Society, 333 East 47th Street, $30 for members, $35 for nonmembers, and open only to those at least 21: (212) 715-1258, japansociety.org.
