Free Events and Some Small Priced Events

Pastry chefs from around the city will make all kinds of confections for a bake sale Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Almondine, 85 Water Street (Main Street), the pastry shop in Dumbo, Brooklyn, to benefit the bakery, which was damaged by the storm.

Children 4 to 13 will be taught how to prepare holiday vegetable dishes in a free class, from 4 to 5 p.m., at Whole Foods Markets. On Wednesday, it will be at 270 Greenwich Street (Murray Street), and Tuesday at 808 Columbus Avenue (97th Street). There will be a free latke tasting, with Klezmer music, on Thursday from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. at the J.C.C. in Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Avenue (76th Street), as part of the Hanukkah festivities.

A free tasting of Scharffen Berger chocolates, cocoa and other confections is set for Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Chelsea Triangle, Ninth Avenue and 14th Street.

Bakers, chefs and food producers in Queens will offer samples of their wares Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at a pop-up Queens County Market at Quaint, 46-10 Skillman Avenue (46th Street), Sunnyside. Admission is free.

A Momofuku Milk Bar truck with the pastry chef Christina Tosi and her mother, Greta Miller, will roam Manhattan and Brooklyn Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., dispensing free cookies as a holiday treat. The truck, sponsored by American Express, is scheduled to start at Columbus Circle at 11 a.m., arrive at Madison Square Park at 12:10 p.m.; Union Square at 1:20; SoHo at Houston and Greene Streets at 2:30; Bedford and North Seventh Streets in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, at 3:40; and Fort Greene Park at 4:50 p.m.

This year New York will have not one but two chocolate extravaganzas. The annual Chocolate Show was held a month ago, and now the Chocolate World Expo, with more than 60 exhibitors handing out samples and selling their confections, is coming on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the 69th Regiment Armory, 68 Lexington Avenue (25th Street). Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for ages 5 to 11, from chocolateworldexpo.com, or they may be purchased (with cash or credit card) at the door.

Kimjang, the process of making kimchi, will be demonstrated on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the New Amsterdam Market in the South Street Seaport. Tickets, $21.69, or $37.22 with a copy of “The Kimchi Cookbook,” which was recently published: brownpapertickets.com/event/303909.
